The wider community…at home
Totnes Food Bank is a Christian community project being run in conjunction with local agencies to identify and serve families in crisis. It covers Totnes and the immediate surrounding area. We collect these types of food :- dried rice, pasta and noodles, tinned soups, meat, vegetables and puddings, sugar, tea and coffee, biscuits, squash & cereals, UHT drinks – milk & fruit juice, dried foods & non-perishables. Gifts are left in a box at the back of the church for collection or cash donations are very welcome.
…and abroad : The Janani home in Pondicherry, India.
Katie is the daughter of Sandra, who sings every week in the choir. Marldon Church members also help to support Katie’s work in Pondicherry, where many girls are not provided the resources they need to acquire a good education, live a safe life, and overcome the many obstacles that women in India have to face. The home aims to remove children from neglectful and abusive homes, and gives them a chance to be surrounded by loving individuals. Additionally, many come from poor families that do not have the financial resources to support them. Janani home provides proper shelter, food and structured day for the young girls living there. They attend evening school daily and various extracurricular activities such as art, dancing and singing, while the girls have access to quality medical care.
